According to this blog post, Nikon Pro Magazine (only for NPS members) has the details the D3X. The scanned images have been removed due to bandwidth limit but Nikon Rumors have them here.

The Nikon D3X specs:

  • Live View mode
  • 51-point MultiCAM3500FX autofocus system
  • 3in, 922K dot VGA viewing screen with 170 degree viewing angle
  • Weather-resistant magnesium body with high-grade rubber grips
  • ISO 100-1600 extendable to 50 and 6400
  • Continuous shooting speed 5fps (7fps in DX crop mode)

  • USB 2.0 for image transfer
  • Both HDMI and AV/Out

Clearly, the Nikon D3X is aimed at fashion, commercial, and landscape photographers who need the ultimate details in their photos. It is expected Nikon will continue to sell D3 for its exceptional low light high ISO performances.
To me, the specs look good but a little disappointing. It will be interesting to see at what price point the D3X will be sold. That might be the biggest surprise. Perhaps we should just wait patiently for a few more days to see Nikon’s official announcement.
