Things can be ugly if technology falls into the wrong hands. Researchers have shown it is very easy to clone a key from a photo taken on normal mobile camera phones, and from shots taken over hundreds of feet away using telephoto lenses.

UC San Diego computer scientists led by Professor Stefan Savage have built such a software program called “Sneaky” that can perform key duplication without physically having the key. Instead, they only need a photograph of the key.

Don’t wait. Delete all of your photos that you have shared online with images of your keys now!
