The black dots problem discovered on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is now seen in the Video Mode as well. Check out the following Youtube video clip.

This is probably caused by a different mechanism called “black sun effect” than the one in the still images because the black dots are at the center (instead of the right) of bright areas.

Can it become worse than this for Canon? Many people hope these are simple issues that can be fixed by a firmware update but I am afraid some are sensor design and system integration issues that nothing less than a sensor/board swap could completely fix. We still hope Canon to address these issues soon. However it won’t surprise me if they decided to hide their heads in the sand for a little longer.
