There are currently two new Adobe Photoshop CS4 books available specifically targeting digital photographers.  The first is Scott Kelby’s book, The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter), which became available on Amazon since January 1, 2009 and it is already the #1 seller in the Adobe Photoshop book category. The second one is Martin Evening’s book, Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Photographers: A Professional Image Editor’s Guide to the Creative use of Photoshop for the Macintosh and PC. It become available slightly earlier: since December 15, 2008. Currently it is the #5 book in the same category. There is no review yet on Scott’s book but there are five 5-star reviews on Martin’s book as of today.

The two books appear to be somewhat different. Based on the product description, my own experience with his 2003 version (ISBN: 0-7357-1236-0), and user reviews of his book for earlier version of Adobe Photoshop, Scott’s book is a very task oriented, easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions for common photography editing tasks. Martin’s book appears to be for intermediate to advanced Photoshop users. Scott tries to be funny in his books and Martin is more serious. That perhaps isn’t a very important factor for making a purchase decision.

If you have already bought either one of the books, please share with us your thoughts.
