The rumors all pointed to February 7 as the date for Nikon to announce the Nikon D800. The latest rumor came from a forum post on the website of French photography magazine Chasseur d’Images. There is also a discussion thread at DPReview of the rumored specs. According to the rumors, the Nikon D800 have the following major specs.

  • Lighter body than its predecessor Nikon D700 by 100 grams (3.5 oz)
  • 36 megapixel CMOS sensor using Sony Exmor technology
  • ISO 100 to 6400, extendable to ISO 50 and 24,800. Noise-free up to ISO 1600.
  • 100% viewfinder (vs 93% on the Nikon D700).
  • EXPEED 3 image processing engine. 14-bit uncompressed raw format.
  • 91K RGB exposure meter, same as D4
  • 51 point auto focus (AF) system, same as D4, that works under EV-2 and at f/8.
  • 4 fps (6 fps with optional battery pack) continuous shooting speed
  • 3.2 inch (8.1cm) 920K dot LCD
  • CF and SD card support
  • USB 3.0. Supports WiFi wireless module WT-4 (not the newest WT-5)
  • Video recording 1080P @30fps. HDMI uncompressed video output, contrast detection and face detection AF during video recording. Headphone jack (or microphone jack?)
  • Two versions of Nikon D800 will be available. The one without a anti-aliasing filter (Nikon D800E) will cost 10% more.
