Someone claimed that a Nikon representative disclosed some details of the upcoming Nikon MX format DSLR camera. I had to say it is not very credible but for the interestingness, here are the juicy pieces:

  • November 20th announcement and early December availability
  • Larger than full frame (FX) sensor with more than 24 megapixel
  • Crop mode more than 12 megapixel (with FF lens?)
  • New lenses that also work on FF body
  • D700 size and price
The timing seems to be consistent with another rumor we reported earlier. Perhaps it is true?

Nikon D700 and D3 are great full frame (FX) DSLR cameras for their solid build quality and low light capability. However there are people who want or need high pixel density, especially when both Canon and Sony now have high pixel density (>20 megapixel) full frame DSLR cameras in the market.

According to a “reliable” (it is up to you for the meaning of this word) source, a high pixel count (Would it be 24 megapixel?) full frame pro DSLR will be announced in approximately 45 days. That’s just a week before the Christmas! Perfect timing for a New Year’s wish list.

This is not totally new. I have seen it mentioned at several places by various people. Now engadget has picked up the story. Is it a digital rangefinder? Digital medium format? It appears to have a larger sensor, which may be the rumored Nikon MX format.
