Just saw both PocketWizard MiniTT1 Radio Transmitter and Pocket Wizard FlexTT5 Transceiver are listed in today’s lighting deals at Amazon. The MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 are wireless flash triggering solutions for Nikon camera/flashes that support the TTL functionality without the line-of-sight limitations of Nikon’s optical wireless system.

The deals will start at 9:15AM PST. They may not last long if the discounts are significant.

Update 1: The deals were over. There was $50 discount on each of them. But they didn’t fly off Amazon warehouse in a flash. I guess only professional photographers and serious photography enthusiasts would find them necessary.

Update 2: Now they have $25 main-in rebate for each of them. You need to order by 12/31/11 and send in the form by 1/31/2012.

If you have been waiting for a good deal on Nikon cameras and lenses , the holiday season is perhaps the best time to splurge. Nikon is offering instant savings on some cameras and lenses from November 26 to November 28 (Thursday to Saturday). Here is the online version of the circular (Adobe Flash required to view the page).

The fine print indicates that the prices listed are all suggested retail prices. Your local authorized Nikon retailer will decide the actual sale price. If you want to get the best price though, skip the local store and shop online. The suggested retail price for the Nikon D90 outfit with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens is $1149.95, but the current price at Amazon.com is $1029.95.

If you are looking for lenses, the Nikon Black Friday promotion only offers some packaged deals on a few consumer grade lenses. Third party lens manufacturer Sigma does not offer any rebates but Tamron is currently offering some mail-in rebates. You get $25 rebate for the Tamron AF17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC (model B005) and Tamron AF 60mm f/2.0 SP DI II LD IF 1:1 Macro (model G005). For anyone looking for a general purpose walk-around never-change-lens-again lens, there is a $70 rebate for the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC lens— the world’s only 15X zoom made for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors.

If your are looking for deals on digital cameras or other photography gears, or you are simply going after some therapeutic effects of spending money (shopping therapy), there may be something you can do on the coming Friday.

You don’t have to wait until Thursday to buy local newspapers to get started. The deals were all “leaked” way ahead of the time. Typically I check out http://bfads.net/. If you know what you are looking for, you can simply search for the item you want. Otherwise you can browse the categories (direct link to Digital Camera category).

Another good site is http://www.blackfriday.info. Some relevant categories are digital camerasmemory cards, and photo frames.

It is perhaps no longer a secret about most of the deals. The stores don’t have more than a few of them and there will be no rain checks. If you want to try your luck of scoring a great deal by standing in line before the door opens, you have my best wishes. If you are too lazy to get up early or just being smarter, you may already know that there are lots of hot deals online as well. Many online stores also have sells going on before and after the Black Friday. For example, Amazon Black Friday Deals starts on Monday, November 23, which is just a few hours away. If that’s too long to wait, their Today’s Deals in Camera and Photo is going on all the time.

One of our readers was kind to drop us a note about the $60 savings you can get by buying the Capture NX 2 full version from Cameta Camera (check store rating). At $119.95, it is the cheapest we have seen.

Nikon Mall wants the full price for both boxed retail and download versions. It is currently $131.56 from Amazon. 3rd party prices are as low as $127.

We thank Michael for the note and welcome more such deals. Please use our contact form or email us at info@dptnt.com.
