The Nikon D800’s 36.3 megapixel image sensor will undoubtedly lead to huge image file sizes. Nikon was obviously ready to give you an idea: 76.5 MB for RAW and over 200 MB for 16-bit TIFF file! If you have pre-ordered the Nikon D800/D800E, you may also want to consider if it is time to get more flash cards, storage, and a better computer.

Some people found that the official Nikon D800 sample images were quite old. For example the following photo was taken on July 10, 2011. The explanation that the Nikon D800 was actually scheduled for release in October 2011 but was delayed due to nature disasters especially the severe flood in Thailand seems to make sense.

With current i-TTL capable Nikon DSLR cameras, the exposure compensation adjustment also affects the i-TTL flash exposure when shooting in an automated exposure mode like aperture priority. In another word, exposure compensation affects both ambient and flash exposure. If you want to reduce the ambient exposure while keeping the flash exposure unchanged, you’d have to make two adjustments: first dial down the exposure compensation, then increase the flash exposure compensation. In a detailed demonstration by Nikon UK, you can see some of the nice features Nikon put in its new flagship DSLR camera the Nikon D4 to make it a high performance user-friendly machine for video shooters.

The HDMI port on Nikon D4 can display clean video feed on external monitor and is not simply duplicating what is on the built-in LCD display. For example the LCD on the camera can have all the shooting information while the external video feed via HDMI can have none of it. This makes it possible to record the clean video from HDMI output to avoid the 30 minute time limit on the internal recording. Read More…
